Once again after a lapse of some five years the JEWEL robberies start. Ajit an ex-robber naturally falls first on the police Suspect List, as his modus operandi synchronizes with the present robberies. Chief Inspector Devesh of Crime-branch a detective who is refreshingly different goes to arrest him. But Ajit, a forceful dynamic personality. Dodges the good-natured Inspector and walks into Café Naaz the recreation joint of Sabina- for help, knowing that every step he takes is a FOOTSTEP OF DEATH. Sabrina’s father Joseph had unfortunately committed a murder in his early twenties. And Rai Saheb, otherwise a highly respectable man of the society, was well aware of this SECRET! Sabrina was deeply in love with Ajit! She was a beautiful woman bound by her father’s crime to take orders from Rai Saheb… living in desperate fear of death…fighting a fate she could scarcely believe.! Ajit loved Reeta! A piquant face with lovable features the daughter of a rich widow, who wanted her to marry Rai Saheb. But she did not like him a bit. And then the Robber attacks in the dense of midnight…she switches on the table lamp to find… AJIT!!! WHO IS THE ROBBER? It might have been as simple as A B C but who so ever had made “D” stand for death knew it would take more than simple alphabetical logic to find the one answer to “E”—THE ENIGMA—that would also mean      THE END.
