Remembering director C L Rawal on the occasion of his death anniversary—he had passed away on 17 July, 2005. Rawal had directed films such as Dil Hi To Hai (1963), Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya (1966), Aabroo (1968), and Ladki Pasand Hai (1971). His Dil Hi To Hai starred Raj Kapoor and Nutan in pivotal roles. The film, which had songs penned by lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi and music by Roshan, also had the popular song Laaga chunri mein daag, rendered by Manna Dey. Rawal’s Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya starred Dharmendra and Nutan in double roles, and showcased the loyalty and selfless friendships between Ashok (Dharmendra) and Amjad (Rehman). Aabroo was a romantic crime drama starring Ashok Kumar, Nirupa Roy, Vimi, Rehman, Leela Naidu, Shashikala and Deepak Kumar, while Ladki Pasand Hai was a drama featuring Mumtaz, Deepak Kumar, Jeevan and others. C L Rawal was the brother of writer G L Rawal, while his son is actor Deepak Kumar.
