Cinemaazi remembers Virendra Desai on his death anniversary. The second son of Chimanlal Desai and Nandgauri, he studied in Bharuch before shifting to Bangalore. He later came to Bombay and joined Sagar Movietone. He co-directed his first film with Ramchandra Thakur in Gramophone Singer (1938). He made other films like Sadhana (1939), Sanskar 91940). In 1941 he convinced Nalini Jaywant's father to allow her to act in Radhika (1941). They later got married. Although they later joined Filmistan, they were unhappy and left to form Nalini Pictures. The first film under the banner was Gunjan (1948). Unfortunately their marriage could not last. He later fell on hard times and was forced to live in a caravan. He spent his last days in Bangalore. He passed away on 1st July 1970.
