Cinemaazi remembers Gaston Roberge on his death anniversay

A prolific writer, critic and scholar, Gaston Roberge (b. 27 May 1935 in Montreal) passed away on 26 August 2020 in Kolkata. Roberge had been a Jesuit priest before coming to India. He came to Kolkata in 1961 and became a teacher of communication and media at St Xavier's College.
Roberge was a pioneering figure in the study of cinema in India. He was the founder of the media institute Chitrabani, which played an influential role in spreading cinema studies in India. He had a long standing friendship with Satyajit Ray whose Apu Trilogy made him fall in love with Indian cinema. He wrote over 25 books on cinema.
