Christened as Farhat Jahan, Bibbo was also known by her alternate screen name Ishrat Sultana. Although the credit usually goes to either Saraswati Devi or Jaddanbai, it was Ishrat Sultana who was credited as the first female music composer of Indian cinema with the 1934 film Adl-e-Jehangir.

No one was more shocked than Tapen Chatterjee himself when he was offered the lead role in Satyajit Ray's Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne (1968). Acting was never on his mind and even after the film's stupendous success, he only did a handful of other roles. Satyajit Ray's magical minstrel remains his immortal creation. One of the greatest Urdu poets of the 20th century, Majrooh Sultanpuri passed away on this day in 2000. A disciple of Jigar Moradabadi, it was A R Kardar who spotted his talent first. After impressing Naushad, he received his first assignment as a lyricist in Shah Jehan (1946). Over the course of the next five decades, he gifted Hindi cinema with some of its most memorable poets.
