Cinemaazi remembers Ghulam Mohammad on his birth anniversary
Cinemaazi remembers Ghulam Mohammad (also spelt as Mohammed), the highly regarded music composer, on his birth anniversary. Ghulam Mohammad was born on 20 April, 1903.

He worked with great music directors like Anil Biswas and Naushad. Starting with Sanjog (1943) and up until the release of Aan (1952), Ghulam Mohammad worked as an assistant to Naushad. After Aan, he started working as an independent music composer. With his work in films like Paras (1949), Mera Khwab (1943), Tiger Queen (1947) and Doli(1947), he found a place for himself in the world of Hindi film music. He continued with movies like Pagdi(1948),Pardes (1950), Nazneen(1951), Gauhar (1953), Rail Ka Dibba (1953), Hoor-E-Arab (1955),Sitara (1955) and Dil-E-Nadan (1953). His compositions for Pakeezah (1971) played no small part in the eventual success of the film.

Mirza Ghalib (1954) was another landmark film for which Ghulam Mohammad composed music.

It is widely believed that Ghulam Mohammad was responsible for introducing the matka as an instrument widely used in film music. He used the matka to great effect in one of his most popular compositions, Iss dard ki maari duniya mein mujh sabhi koi majboor na ho in Paras.
