Cinemaazi remembers K Vaikunth on his 100th birth anniversary

Born in Margaon in 1925, Vaikunth Dattaram Kunkolienkar adopted the name K Vaikunth when he entered the film industry. He started off as the 5th assistant for Surendra Pai in Bari Bahen (1949). His first film as an independent cinematographer was Garm Coat (1955). Over the years he has shot many successful films, including a long collaborative partnership with G P Sippy. He also worked with Gulzar in Mere Apne (1971). He was presented with the Filmfare Award for his work in Seeta Aur Geeta (1972). He has also worked on multiple documentaries and ad films, including making several documentaries on Goa under his K Vaikunth Films banner. Some of his other films are Kab? Kyoon? Aur Kahaan (1970), Andaz (1971), Parichay (1972), Achanak (1973), Roti (1974), Mausam (1975), Aandhi (1975) among others. He passed away on this day in 2003. Cinemaazi salutes him for his contributions.
