Cinemaazi wishes Annu Kapoor a happy birthday! Born on this day in 1956 in Bhopal, Annu Kapoor was drawn to acting from a young age due to his father's travelling theatre company. Though he actually wanted to become an IAS officer, due to financial hardships he had to cease his education after the secondary standard. Cutting his teeth as an actor in his father's company, he went on to study in the National School of Drama. Growing into a mature and versatile performer, he caught the eye of Shyam Benegal in the play Ek Ruka Hua Faisla who gave him a role in Mandi (1983). He went on to feature in films like Mashaal (1984), Khandhar (1984), Damul (1984), Arjun (1985), Chameli Ki Shaadi (1986), Susman (1987), Mr India (1987), Ram Lakhan (1989), Main Azad Hoon (1989), Ghayal (1990) and many more. He enjoyed a successful television career, in Antakshari and The Golden Era with Annu Kapoor. He has experienced a career resurgence of sorts following his popular turn in Vicky Donor (2012) which won him both the National Award and Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. Though often typecast in comic roles, he has strived to prove he can provide much more. Which is your favourite Annu Kapoor role?
