Cinemaazi wishes National Award-winning filmmaker Prakash Jha a Happy Birthday. Born 27 February, 1952, Jha is known for his hard-hitting, realistic, socio-political films that focus on sensitive issues in Indian society. His films have achieved the rare balance of commercial success and critical acclaim. While his Damul (1984) lifted the curtain on bonded labour and caste oppression in Bihar, Mrityudand (1997) tackled gender inequality and social unfairness. Chakravyuh (2012) portrayed the issue of Naxalism and the outrage against the system, while Apaharan (2005) delved into the realm of the black industry of abduction. Gangajal (2003) depicted the corruption in the Police department, Raajneeti (2010) drew parallels between Indian politics and the Mahabharata, and Aarakshan (2011) examined caste-based reservations in educational institutes and government jobs. He has also produced interesting films such as the black comedy Lipstick Under My Burkha (2016), as well as successful TV serials like Mungerilal Ke Haseen Sapne, created award-winning documentaries such as Faces After The Storm and Kudiattam, and the webseries Aashram.
