Cinemaazi remembers Bade Ghulam Ali Khan on his birth anniversary
Often called the Tansen of the 20th century, Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan from the Patiala Gharana was an esteemed Hindustani classical singer. Born on this day, he was trained under his uncle, Kale Khan and his father Ali Baksh Khan. He made an alteration in his performance by creating a fusion of Dhrupad, Jaipur and Gwalior gharanas into his own Patiala-Kasur styles. In order to cater to his audience, he altered the duration of the long alaps to a much shorter time in his performance. After much convincing from K Asif, the maestro finally rendered Shubh din aayo raj dulara and Prem jogan ban ke for his masterpiece Mughal-e-Azam (1960). He was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and Padma Bhushan Award in 1962.cCinemaazi remembers him on his birth anniversary.
