Cinemaazi remembers Ravindra Jain on his birth anniversary
28 Feb 1940
Cinemaazi remembers Ravindra Jain, an acclaimed music personality, on his birth anniversary (28 February, 1944). He overcame lifelong blindness and achieved greatness. Jain composed music and wrote lyrics for more than 150 films in multiple languages.
During the 1970s when the Rajshri Productions was providing a counter to Amitabh Bachchan’s angry young man stereotypes, with wholesome family entertainers, Ravindra Jain came out with melodious compositions in one film after another - Geet Gata Chal, Chitchor, Ankhion Ke Jharokhon Se, and Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaye among others.
He exploited the entire range of Yesudas' genius and the duo produced one hit after the other in the 1970s and 1980s. He named Yesudas as the "Voice of India". Jain once famously said that if he was ever to gain sight, Yesudas's face was the first he wished to see. Hemlata was another singer who featured prominently in Jain's compositions.
Jain has to his credit films that set records on the box-office — many of them silver, golden, platinum and diamond jubilee ones, such as Saudagar, Chor Machaye Shor, Tapasya, Ankhiyon ke Jharokhon Se, Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaaye, Pati Patni aur Woh, Insaf Ka Tarazu, Fakira, Aatish, Ram Bharose, Do Jasoos, Nadiya Ke Paar, Brij Bhoomi, Paheli, Salaakhen, Pratighat, Yeh Aag Kab Bujhegi, Param Vir Chakra, Ram Teri Ganga Maili and Henna .
He won the Filmfare award both for music and lyrics. He thrice won the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director Chitchor in 1976, Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se in 1978 and Ram Teri Ganga Maili in 1985. He got the best lyricist and music award in 1978 for Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se. He was nominated for lyrics in 1991 for Main Hoon Kushrang for Henna.
His collection of Urdu Shayari, titled Ujalon Ka Silsila, received Sahitya Award from Uttar Pradesh Hindi-Urdu Sahitya Award Committee.
Jain hailed from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. He died on 9 October 2015.
