Cinemaazi remembers Sadhana Bose, an iconic dancer-actress in early talkies of Indian cinema on her death anniversary. Born on 20 April 1914, Sadhana Bose was an acclaimed contemporary dancer before she started working in silent films in the 1930s. Although her first film release was Alibaba (1937) (Bengali), and she acted in many films thereafter, it was Kumkum The Dancer (1940), made by her filmmaker husband Madhu Bose, that catapulted her to fame. She also appeared in the popular film Meenakshi (1942). Sadhana Bose is also noted for having acted in the first English film made in India, The Court Dancer/ Raj Nartaki (1941).
