A popular actress of Hindi and Marathi films, Kamini Kadam was born as Manik Kadam in August 1933 in Bombay. She began her career in Marathi films under the name of Smita in the film Yere Maazya Maglya (dir. Bhalji Pendharkar, 1955). in 1958 she assumed the screen name Kamini Kadam and made her Hindi debut opposite Rajendra Kumar in the hit film Talaq (1958).
