Cinemaazi remembers Harindranath Chattopadhyay on his death anniversary

A man of many talents, Harindranath Chattopadhyay passed away on 23 June, 1990. Son of famous educationist Aghorenath Chattopadhyay and poet Barada Sundari Devi, and brother to Sarojini Naidu and Virendranath Chattopadyay, he himself became a distinguished poet, lyricist and playwright.
His contributions to Indian cinema are quite varied. His poem Rail gaadi was put to song in Aashirwad (1968), often credited as Indian cinema's first rap song. He also played a pivotal role in the film. He wrote the popular song My heart is beating from Julie (1975), as well as songs in Paapi (1977) and Swarag Narak (1978). As an actor he played memorable roles in Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962), Tere Ghar Ke Samne (1963), The Householder (1963), Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne (1969), Seemabaddha (1971), Bawarchi (1972), as Sidhu Jyatha in Satyajit Ray's Feluda films, and many more.
He contested the 1st Lok Sabha elections from Vijayawada and won. During his time in the Lok Sabha, he was known to be an outspoken critique of some of the Nehru government's policies, such as the ban on film music from All India Radio.
