Cinemaazi remembers N N Sippy on his birth anniversary

N N Sippy's career straddled various eras of filmmaking to which he made his own contributions. By some accounts, he was born on this day in 1931. As a producer, his first film was Qatil (1960), a fantasy drama starring Premnath and Chitra. D R Chandra was the co-producer. Sippy then made another fantasy film Rooplekha (1962) with Mahipal in the lead. 

This was followed by hits in different genres such as - Woh Kaun Thi? (1964), Gumnaam (1965),Sargam (1979), Kalicharan and Fakira (both 1976), Chor Machaye Shor (1974) and Meri Jung (1985). 

Before beginning his career as a producer in 1959, he worked for 10 years in the film industry in various capacities. His father was a prominent distributor in Sindh province before India's partition and he too briefly worked for the family business.
