Paayal (Bhagyashree) is a mischievous, fun-loving girl. Taking advantage of her innocent looks, she manages to fool many a man. A cute looking girl, Paayal, residing in a college hostel, is the only daughter of her father.

One day, her father's friend, Shakti Kapoor (Shakti Kapoor) informs her that her father has expired. Her father's last wish was that Paayal should go and stay with her grandmother (Farida Jalal). Shakti  takes her to the village where her grandmother is living. Her grandmother is very happy that her only grand-daughter has come to stay with her. Indulging himeself in small thefts, Arjun (Himalaya) is a good-for-nothing guy staying in the same village. For him, it's love at first sight when he sees Paayal and tries to draw her attention. Paayal realises that though he isn't educated and well-cultured, he has a golden heart. If he is given the right guidance, he can become something big in life. Paayal and Arjun start loving each other immensely but Shakti  Kapoor doesn't approve of their love.

Shakti insults Arjun and drives him out of Paayal's grandmother's house. Shakti and Paayal's grandmother have a secret conversation but Paayal manages to hear everything. The next day, Paayal is not very keen to meet Arjun. She decides to keep Arjun away from her for the rest of her life.

So why did Paayal take such a drastic step ? What made such a strong impact on Paayal's mind ? Did Paayal and Arjun meet again ? Did the two love-birds re-unite?

Mahendra Sha's PAAYAL' is the answer to these questions.
