Cinemaazi remembers Rehman on his birth anniversary

Cinemaazi remembers character actor Rehman, born as Syed Rehman Khan, on his 99th birth anniversary. His family can trace their roots to King  Amanullah Khan of Afghanistan. He graduated from Robertson College Jabalpur, staying in Beohar Niwas Palace. He served in Indian Air Force before joining films.

Rehman made his film debut in Hum Ek Hain (1946) alongside Dev Anand. Though he is most known for his roles in films such as Pyaasa (1957), Chaudhvin Ka Chand (1960), Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962), Waqt (1965) and Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya (1966) his career goes beyond these films. He first met Guru Dutt in Prabhat Studios and thus began a lifelong friendship and professional collaborations, until Dutt's death in 1964. They worked together in five films. Rehman continued his associations with Guru Dutt Productions even after Dutt's death. 

He played the titular role in Shahjehan (1946) and Emperor Jahangir in Taj Mahal (1963). Pyar Ki Jeet(1948), Badi Bahen (1949), Phir Subah Hogi (1958) and Choti Bahen(1959) were amongst some of his popular films. He was known for his suave sophisticated roles which suited his personality.
