First let us give you a brief sketch of the history of "TAJ MAHAL", situated on the Banks of River JAMUNA, AGRA.

`TAJ MAHAL' was built by EMPEROR SHAHJAHAN (PRINCE KHURRAM) as a mausoleum for EMPRESS MUMTAZMAHAL (ARJU-MANDBANOO) or TAJBIBI, who died while giving birth to a. Princess. This woman celebrated alike for talents and her beauty, inspired the PRINCE with such love and admiration that he resolved to rise to her memory, the most beautiful monument that had ever been constructed by MAN.

The construction of this beautiful monument was commenced in the year of 1631 A. D. and was completed in 1648 A. D. and during those seventeen years 20,000 workmen were employed; a fabulous amount was spent with such devotion which has no parallel in the history of MAN'S love for a WOMAN.

On the death of EMPEROR JEHANGIR, EMPRESS NOOR JEHAN proclaimed PRINCE SHAHERYAR as the EMPEROR OF INDIA, but in 1628, A. D. PRINCE KHURRAM with the help of his FATHER-IN-LAW ASIF KHAN and the MAHARAJA KARANSING of UDAIPUR imprisoned PRINCE SHAHERYAR and ascended the THRONE under the title of SHAHJAHAN.

The last days of SHAHJEHAN'S life is a great tragedy. He was seized by a sudden illness and was imprisoned at AGRA FORT in 1657. A. D. by his youngest son AURANGZEB.

ON MONDAY, 22nd JANUARY 1666, A. D. he asked his attendant to turn his face towards THE TAJ.... and thus... HIS eyes fixed on this sublime monument of LOVE & DEVOTION... SHAHJEHAN... The MAGNIFICIENT breathed his last..............
