Cinemaazi remembers Yash Chopra on his birth anniversary

Cinemaazi celebrates the birth anniversary of legendary director- producer , Yash Chopra. Born in Lahore,1932 Yash Chopra was instrumental in shaping the genre of drama and romance in mainstream Hindi cinema. He started his career as an assistant to his brother B. R Chopra and later went on to direct films like Dharmputra (1961), Waqt(1965), Ittefaq(1969), Aadmi Aur Insaan (1969) under the B.R Films banner. He is known to have unearthed many talents within the industry through his collaborations with actors, singers, composers. The 1975 action thrillerDeewaarestablished Amitabh Bachan as a superstar in the seventies. His success catapulted after launching his own banner Yash Raj Films in 1970, which is one of the largest entertainment companies in India. Over a five decade long career, Chopra redefined and paved way for a cinematic experience, that the Hindi film audience was not exposed to, his films anchored in strong screen plays, embellished with lush and gorgeous locations, and impeccable music scores. He explored and adventured bolder themes, socially relevant messages all in perfect semblance with the parameters of commercial cinema. Considered as a quintessential romantic filmmaker, his films became a genre in themselves with masterpieces like Kabhi Kabhie(1976), Silsila (1981), Chandni (1989), Lamhe (1991), Darr (1993), Dil Toh Pagal Hai(1997) and many more. Yash Chopra won 6 National Awards and was honoured with the Padma Bhushan. His repertoire of great films, his creative legacy stands tall and undiminished.
