Mahesh Bhatt's Aashiqui (1990) was not only a blockbuster success at the box office but more significantly it set the template for Hindi cinema for decades to come. The success of the film has been credited mostly to the fantastic soundtrack which was bolstered by its availability in the form of affordable  audio cassettes and helped in reaching the music of the movie to public at large . It gave Mahesh Bhatt and Gulshan Kumar a hit formula to replicate and established a team of Anuradha Paudwal, Kumar Shanu , music directors Nadeem Shravan and lyricist Sameer. It made newcomers Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal overnight sensations. One of the highest selling music albums of all time, it is credited with bringing melody back , as the disco era was coming to an end.
