The story begins with a man called MEER SAHEB (Om Shivpuri) who happened to come across a TREASURE MAP. He purchased the Map and proceeded to an unknown place "SHEERINA".

Meer Saheb starts excavating on a small hillock, fruitlessly looking for the Treasure. His efforts fail and his workers refused to co-operate with him because he was not in a position to pay them. In dejection and humiliation, he killed himself, leaving the Treasure Map with a friend called Abdul Karim (Nazir Hussain) with instructions that the Map should be kept safely and should be handed over to his Son (who is studying in England) when he returns.

The son, AMMAN (Naseeruddin Shah) returned and his first encounter was with a PATHAN taxi driver called "AJAB KHAN" (Amjad Khan) who agreed to take him to Sheerina from Alampur.

The two of them reached Sheerina and Ajab Khan sensing some adventure stayed on with Amman to locate the Treasure.

The two are faced with many perils and difficulties. They are threatened by dacoits who are also on the look out for the Treasure.

"Do Amman and Ajab Khan succeed in finding the treasure"?

"Or is it found by the dacoits"?

What happened to the two of them is what this film is all about and you will have to see it to answer the questions.
