Music director Robin Chatterjee was born on 8 January, 1914. Debuting with the film Parineeta (1942), he went on to compose the music for approximately 90 films in the course of his career. These include films such as Abhayer Biye (1942), Samadhan (1943), Swapna-o-Sadhana (1947), Anirban (1948), Sabyasachi (1948), Sankalpa (1949), Babla (1951), Subhadra (1952), Vidyasagar (1952), Godhuli (1955), Sagarika (1956), Tansen (1958), Bipasha (1962), Grihadaha (1967), Aparachita (1969), Arogya Niketan (1969), and Aparna (1972). 

Robin Chatterjee worked with many leading singers of the time such as Hemanta Mukherjee, Manna Dey, Shyamal Mitra, Aarti Mukherjee, Sandhya Mukherjee, Pratima Banerjee, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Geeta Dutt, Arundhati Holme Chowdhury, and Utpala Sen. Some of his Hindi compositions include Jago musafir, Hum tum jo gaate hai, Yeh behta hua pani, and Main toh ram rattan dhan payo. Among his well-known Bengali songs are Piya piya piya ke dake amare from Godhuli, Amar swapne dekha rajkanya from Sagarika, Ghum ghum chand and Kataro aghate chino paye rokto jhore from Sabar Uparey (1955), E shudhu gaaner din from Pathey Holo Deri (1957), Ei pranjharona jaglo, Dukkho amar sesh kore dao, Dukher pothe namli jodi from Lalu Bhulu, and Klantir path bujhira phuralo, and Ami sapne tomay dekhechhi from Bipasha. 

He is also credited with giving a young Talat Mehmood his break in Rajlaxmi (1945). He also gave music to several other Hindi films like Ratan Deep (1952), Pehli Shadi (1953), Majboori (1954), Dhake Ki Malmal (1956) and Sakhi Robin (1962).
