VIJAY is a blue eyed boy of the whole village. He is always full of life and always ready to help his neighbours. By profession he is a State Transport bus driver. His only weakness is his sister RADHA, who is his main responsibility.

Our story starts when the village is suffering from acute shortage of water. For the last two years there has been no rainfall, the wells have dried up and there are not crops. Inspite of repeated petitions to the Government for the supply of a tube well, there is no sign of it from the Collector's office. Their only slogan is, shortage of funds.

LANKESHWAR, who lives in the nearby village, has plenty of water in his personal pond and canal, but he refuses to part with even water. He wants the lands of the poor farmers, which is their only wealth. The situation reaches to a point of crisis and VIJAY offers all his savings, which he had accumulated for his sister RADHA's marriage and goes to the big city to get a Tube Well for his thirsty village. For this he also sells a part of his land to LANKESHWAR for supplying water to the village. ALANKESHWAR, on the other hand, has other plans up his sleeve. He along with his city based partner NIRANJAN, wants to exploit the water crisis. They want to grab all the land from the villagers so that they can too see that VIJAY fails in his mission. VIJAY goes to the city and misfortune strikes at the city bus depot itself, where all his money gets stolen. He later meets AMAR whom he saves from a gang of thieves. AMAR sympathises with VIJAY and understands his difficulty. He takes VIJAY to his camp and Vijay promises to work hard and earn the money so as to be able to buy the Tube Well and return to the village.

In the process, he meets a lot of golden hearted people in the chawl and also enemy in the form of NIRANJAN. He also meets his beloved GEETA, who had once been rejected by NIRANJAN, but is not lusting for her. Since VIJAY did not return to the village, his sister RADHA comes to the city in search of him. AMAR and RADHA meet and from here the story progresses to a volcanic climax.
