'Intezar' is the story of two young girls, Chanda and Sheela. Chanda has been bred in poverty in a small village, whilst Sheela hails from a rich and influential family. The latter had lost her parents, and had become head of the family, consisting of herself and a younger brother, Anand, at a tender age. Anand was yet a student in college.

Chanda came to the city seeking employment, and was engaged as maidservant by Sheela. The other domestic help was Raghav, who was nicknamed Bholu being something of a simpleton. Chanda found herself being virtually hated by Raghav's mother, a gossip-loving woman with an evil tongue.

Satyen, a friend of Anand, was mining engineer, and was on a tour in connection with a survey of certain copper mines in the vicinity. He became a frequent visitor at Sheels's household. The first meeting between Satyen and Sheela was strained. He was surprised to hear that Sheela had renounced life and dedicated herself to the service of God. He had already fallen prey to her charms, but she did not respond.

Meanwhile Chanda's sweet temperament and gay manner had aroused Anand's desire and lust; and the love of the innocent Bholu. The unletteed Chanda was duped by Anand's lavish promise whom she believed to be the Prince Charming of her dreams and she readily surrendered herself to him. Bholu watched these developments helplessly with a broken heart.

Gradually, almost inspite of herself, Sheela found she was being drawn closer towards the happy-go-lucky Satyen. Yet, an incident out of her past had left it's mark upon the young girl which had transformed her into a man-hater, and now stood as in impregnable barrier between herself and Satyen. Time, the great healer, might have triumphed in achieving the culmination of her deepest feelings for Satyen, when suddenly she was faced with a terrible calamity. All at once, the lives of both Sheela and Chanda were dragged into a whirlpool of deceit and desire. Bholu's mother told Sheela that Chanda was pregnant, and carrying Satyen's child in her womb.

The stage is thus set for a dramatic showdown which sends the story of "Intezar" soaring towards a stirring climax, replete with unexpected twists and turns that lead the characters to an emotion-charged denouement and a bold solution.
