Amar (Sanjay Dutt) is a son of a corrupt M.L.A. Dayanand Khurana (Sadashiv Amrapurkar). Amar and his friends are always upto some mischief or the other in college except his friend Vijay (Javed Jaffery). Pintoo (Annu Kapoor) is slapped by Asha (Raveena Tandon) for his misbehaviour on the stage. As a result of this Amar becomes angry and challenge his friends that he would kiss Asha in front of everybody and which he does.

Asha complaints about Amar's misdoings to the principal (Chandrashekhar). Amar is given a last warning by the principal. Amar becomes furious and with the help of the professor rusticates Asha from the examination hall. Professor Shyamala who is aware of everything goes and complaints to Amar's father at his house. Dayanand Khurana instead of listening to her complaint rapes her. Shyamala unable to bear this commits suicide. On the other hand Asha being unable to bear her stepmother's (Aruna Irani) & her nephew Gulati's (Tej Sapru) torture attempts to kill herself by jumping in the well. Amar comes to her rescue in the nick of the time.

Amar realises his mistakes and changes himself. Slowly Amar & Asha fall in love with each other. Dayanand does not like his son falling in love with Asha as he has already committed to get his son in wedlock with the minister's (Paresh Rawal) daughter (Sonika Gill). To get the minister's chair Dayanand, Minister and Gulati get together to separate Amar & Asha. Do they succeed in separating the two lovers? Does Dayanand become a minister?
