Professor Vidyadhar M.A. (Sanjeev Kumar) is a very simple man. His wife Shobha (asha Parekh) dotes on him and looks after his diet. They have a son and together they are leading a life of bliss.

Their happy life is in turmoil when a sensational Model Menka (Padmini Kolhapure) comes to live in their building. Professor Vidyadhar bumps into Menka. The latter mistakes him to be flirt and humiliates him in the presence of Shobha. An enraged Shobha gives a dressing down to Menka.

Hurt at Shobha's outrage, Menka swears to destroy her happiness. She playbacks romance with the Professor, who plays hide and seek with his wife. With the help of a friend Pyarelal (Deven Verma) the Professor packs his wife to her mother's place, so that he could have a good time with Menka.

Meanwhile, a scientist Dharamdas (Abhi Bhattacharya) is inventing a medicine that can make and object invisible. Dharamdas's son Ranjit (Dalip Tahil) has an evil eye on Menka, but the latter's boy friend Vinod (Shekhar Suman) is stumbling block.

In her native place, Shobha comes to know about the affairs of Professor with Menka and comes back to Bombay. With the help of Pyarelal's girlfriend Manda (Aruna Irani) who is an assistant to scientist Dharamdas, Professor Vidyadhar manages to get hold of the medicine and makes himself invisible to avoid confrontation with his wife Shobha. But this leads to misunderstandings and complications, which are unfolded in one of the most hilarious climaxes ever filmed on Hindi screen.
