Kamal Malhotra (Sanjay Dutt) is a salesman, stuck in a tedious job, working for his uncle (T.P. Jain). He yearns for riches, excitement, adventure. He devises a system to gatecrash parties where the elite of society gather and passes himself off as one of them.
One day he sneaks into a jewellery exhibition organised by the Nawab of Chndrapur (Raza Murad). He introduces himself to Nawab as Kamal Malhotra, multi-millionaire, Kamran (Viju Khote) invites him over to the house of the famous jeweller Norattam Johri (Ramesh Deo). There the unsuspecting Kamal is suddenly tied up and blindfolded. A man appears on a wheelchair, captain S.P. Singh (Amrish Puri) and accuses Kamal of being C.I.D. agent Kamal Malhotra. Kamal denies this but is disbelieved. The gang attempts to kill him but Kamal manages to escape. However, during his affair Narottam Johri is killed. Kamal is mistakenly identified as the killer and the police post a reward of Rs. 10,000- for his capture.
Kamal has one clue to the real killer. Luck (Gulshan Grover)...a Delhi-Bombay rail ticket. Kamal decides to travel by the same train and apprehend the killer. On the train he encounters a girl Sonia Srivastav (Meenakshi Seshadri) who unwillingly helps Kamal escape the police. The police assume that she is Kamal's accomplice and arrest her but Kamal rescuses her. They fall in love. Kamal realizes that Sonia is a model for the Nawab's jewellery and can be helpful in tracking down he gang. But when Sonia hears Kamal's story, she becomes strangely reluctant to help him.
